Notice of suspension of services

The Employee Insurance Division has been advised that effective January 1, 2009, Total Care Pharmacy, the Canadian pharmacy contracted to provide copay-free drugs for state employees, will be suspending services to members of the Minnesota Advantage Health Plan. Although the program has been very successful (as much as $1,000,000 in copay savings to state employees), economic circumstances have impacted Total Care’s ability to provide these services for the foreseeable future.

Please be aware that after December 31, 2008, you will need to select a Navitus network pharmacy and have your prescriber send another prescription to that pharmacy for the drug(s) you are currently purchasing through Total Care Pharmacy.

You also have the option of using mail order through WellDyne. By using mail order you are able to get a 90-day supply for only two copayments. For information about mail order you can:

  • Access the Navitus Web site at www.navitus.com. Go to MembersPlan Specific InformationMN Advantage Health Plan Mail Order Information, or
  • Call Navitus Customer Care toll-free at 866-333-2757 for assistance.

Finally, the Employee Insurance Division has requested that we remind you that open enrollment is November 5 through November 18. If you are planning on making pre-tax contributions to the Medical Dental Expense Account, you may want to make adjustments to reflect the fact that your medical costs may increase because the copay waivers through the Canadian drug program will no longer be available.

Again, if you have any questions about your prescription benefit, call Navitus Customer Care toll-free at 1-866-333-2757.

Overview

This Website helps members of the Minnesota Advantage Health Plan purchase certain prescription medicines at no cost through a Canadian mail order pharmacy or at a reduced cost through the U.S. mail order pharmacy. Minnesotans who are not Advantage members may order Canadian drugs through a separate service, Minnesota RxConnect Online. These Canadian mail order pharmacy services were developed as part of Governor Pawlenty’s plan to help reduce Minnesotans’ expenses for prescription medicine. The pharmacies featured on these sites were selected using screening criteria developed by the state.

How does this work?

As an Advantage member, you may check the Canadian list of available drugs. If your drug is on this list, you may proceed to order it, and the state will reimburse the pharmacy. As part of this arrangement, the program will waive all drug co-payments you normally would pay to a pharmacy. If your drug does not appear on the Canadian list, you may purchase your drugs at a reduced copayment through the U.S. mail order pharmacy associated with your health plan.

What are the savings?

As an incentive, you will not be charged the customary drug co-payments when you purchase through the Canadian mail order pharmacy. Alternatively, if you purchase through the U.S. mail order service, you will only be charged two co-payments for a three-month supply. In addition to these savings for members, the state and taxpayers will also save.
