Minnesota's Plan

In the fall of 2003, Governor Tim Pawlenty instructed the state departments of Human Services, Administration and other agencies to find new ways to help more Minnesotans reduce their prescription medicine expenses.

The first step was the creation of a Minnesota RxConnect Online, a Website for the general public to learn about cost savings strategies and obtaining medicines from Canada. The goal is to help Minnesotans make informed decisions as they seek to manage their prescription medicine costs. With the recent deluge of companies and programs promising prescription savings, Minnesotans need to be wary that they don't sacrifice safety for the sake of savings. The information on this Website will help Minnesotans make more informed decisions.

The next step was the creation of this site in the summer of 2004 for persons covered by the state employee health insurance program, Advantage. As with the Website for the general public, this site contains information about how to be a wise consumer and also offers the opportunity for members to purchase their prescription drugs through one of the two mail order Canadian pharmacies approved by the state for the general public. The goal of this site is help members make informed decisions and to help Minnesota taxpayers save money.
